Penn Arts & Culture Review Blog
Community Guidelines
Return to Blog Home
"Twice and thrice over, it is good to repeat and review what is good," said Plato (maybe). .
The culturecrit.writing.upenn.edu administrators encourage you to participate in the arts & culture community and to
post your thoughtful reactions to Penn arts and culture events. Violation of our guidelines will result in your
postings being deleted from the board and may lead to the loss of your right to participate in it .
- The vitality of this site depends upon what you post. Consider
it one way to contribute to the arts and
culture community. Readers and writers will visit and participate in this site and in arts and culture events based
upon your writing. Readers like insightful, thought-provoking, substantive, creative, interesting reviews. Provide
a bit of evidence for your position-show as well as tell--give us something to think about, enjoy yourself as you
write, and we'll enjoy reading you.
- Do not attack other participants. That is neither pleasurable nor worthwhile. Do feel free to challenge
another person's review-what they are saying about an event or installation-but do not attack or insult the
individual for holding an opinion that does not happen to coincide with your own.
- No obscene language: keep it PG-13. No links to hate sites of any kind.
- No duplicate posts. If you've said it at one site, or said it once, don't say it again. Duplicate posts
are annoying to readers.
- No spams or advertisements.
- This is not a dating service. Consider how much information you wish to distribute to a public site.
Posts that get too personal will be deleted.
- Stay with one name (not a rule, just a suggestion): people may grow to like your reviews, and if you
change your name you will forsake the possibility of creating your very own critical following.
- Don't republish copyrighted information-reposting is copyright infringement even if you attribute the
source. You can post an abstract or a few paragraphs, however, if you attribute the source. If you're not sure
whether you might be infringing, then simply provide a link to the source.
- If someone posts something truly offensive, hateful (rather than simply a view with which you do not agree)
please alert us at once: you will find the "alert" link in the lower left hand corner of the post.
- Respect the moderators. They have a tough job insuring that the blog remains worthwhile and civil. You
may not always agree with their positions or actions, but they are generously donating their time to insure that the
blog remains an interesting and civil venue for a discourse about the arts and culture in this community.
- We reserve the right to move or delete a post, to alter the guidelines, or to terminate the site at any
time. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to remove an offensive post at the instant it appears and therefore
advise all posters that they participate in this site at their own risk.
- Off On a Tangent Forum (OTF): If you have arts and culture or other topics not specific to the events
posted, do feel free to post to the Off-on-a-Tangent Forum (OTF). OTF is for posting everything from serious issues
and political posts to celebrations and comedy: whatever moves you. Just don't be hatin'
